(Re)Discovering You!

As children and young adults, we try to fit-in. When we get to a point of maturity within ourselves we are ready to stand-out. Getting to know our interests, motivators, and passion helps us discover a sense of life purpose and direction.

As children and young adults, we try to fit-in. When we get to a point of maturity within ourselves we are ready to stand-out. Getting to know our interests, motivators, and passion helps us discover a sense of life purpose and direction.

We all have skills and interests that distinguish us and excite people’s interest once conveyed.

From my experience working one to one with others, in almost every case there is a fear of truly expressing who we are. This creates blocks in our energy, our physical body, our thinking and ultimately clouds our vision til one day we question if we actually really know who we are and what we want from life.

Experts in astrology say we are experiencing a shift away from the collective to a more individualized society. Personally, we may feel we are at the cusp of a shift that requires personal muster in the face of fear of being seen as different.

We easily phantom what is at risk, but what is to gain?

Harnessing our natural gifts and talents opens us to work in ways that align with our life purpose, give us energy and strength because of our passion and natural ability, and encourages us to work from the heart rather than the head.

Practical challenges will always exist whether we choose one road or the other. The real consideration should be the blueprint from which you are working, making choices from and basing your life on.

If our roadmap is based on what we think to be society’s expectations we will act in a certain way. If we choose to anchor our choices based on what our personal needs, wants and desires are then the outcome will most likely be different.

The fear of not conforming is a common reason for anxiety and unhappiness. So how can we equip ourselves to override the fear and realise the possibility!

Here are a few simple actions that can bring transformational results:

Invest time in understanding who you are.

Journal every day about your thoughts and feelings. Write freely with no purpose other than to express onto paper.

In this way you are building self-awareness and conciously observing your thinking. Ask yourself big questions- Who am I? When do I feel at my best? If I had no commitments or fears and infinite resources available to me, what would I do? The answers will evolve and fascinate you. Your interest will never wane as you conciously take time to uncover the depths of what makes you You.

Be with like-minded people.

Get to know people who share your values and interests, people with whom you can freely express your ideas. You are never too old to make new friends and it’s only when we are older that we really know what we want in a friend.

Be accountable.

Get an accountability partner from within this group and regularly meet to check-in on the progress you have decided you want to make – whether that is to feel more confident to share your view in board meetings or to take steps towards an aspiration or dream you had pushed aside til now.

Train the muscles to support your progress.

Value yourself by building the resilience to be self-compassionate and self-supportive in the face of challenge.

Meditating daily can help you become more aware of your habits, thought patterns and the voice of your inner-critic. Observation will bring self-awareness that will improve your relationship with others and yourself. It is simple but it requires active commitment- build the resilience through a daily practice that nourishes you and keeps you in a positive state of mind.

Return to your big questions- When do you feel at your best? What do you need to feel alive and excited about your life? Actively incorporate these elements into your every day and build a daily ritual that trains this positive state. Maybe it’s as simple as just singing in the shower every day!

Be brave – take time to know yourself and come closer to understanding your true life purpose.

Establish a simple roadmap of actionable steps that you are ready to be accountable for and most of all- enjoy the process!

As Marianne Williamson best put it –

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves,

‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’

Actually, who are you not to be?

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Wishing you radiance and the courage to shine!
